The ao dai dress is a powerful symbol of Vietnam, perhaps even a synecdoche. My housemate took some semi-erotic photos of a girl while she was wearing one and got a lot of flack for disrespecting Vietnam. It's a charming garment which, with its elegance and gracefulness, suits the women here.
